Ciné-novels (broadly conceived) and photography references

Martin Arnold, Deanimated (2002)

Arnold’s book uses a timeline marked out in dots. Along this line, the shots from his film are reproduced in sequence. The longer the shot is held on the screen, the more dots it spans, therefore the larger it appears on the page.

Alain Resnais Réparages (1974)

French film director Alan Resnais took photographic ‘notes’ of potential locations for various planned film projects. The images were taken between 1948 and 1971 in London, New York, Hiroshima, Italy, Scotland, and Paris, Lyon, Nevers and Autun in France.

Chris Marker La jetée (1962)
